Real Madrid celebrate the league title with Manchester City in mind and the controversy of the 'pasillo' against Atletico

Real Madrid, after celebrating their 35th La Liga title, will play on Wednesday to reach the Champions League final and at the weekend they face their neighbours Atlético de Madrid with the controversy of the "pasillo al campeón".

With five weeks' notice, Madrid have clinched the title after a brilliant start to the season. It gave them the edge over both Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid and then held on to it. 

While it is true that this year, the Blaugrana have been well below their potential and their category, and Atlético de Madrid, who were champions the previous year and had a brilliant season, have been very weak this year at the end of the season. They are struggling to even get into the Champions League.

Barcelona seem to have no problems as Sevilla were in second place for many rounds, but their performance has also dropped a lot and they will probably lose the second position.

Betis and Real Sociedad are also on the lookout for a place in the Champions League.

Ancelotti's side are coming to the end of the season in excellent form. They had the setback against Barcelona and the stumble in the Copa del Rey, but in the league they have been unbeatable and in the Champions League, despite all the criticism, they have reached the semi-finals with a chance.

Only one goal separates them from extra time and two goals from playing in the Champions League final. It would most likely be against Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool, who are at a very high level and are playing with Guardiola's Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Now that La Liga, the Spanish domestic championship, has been resolved, all that remains is the controversy of the derby against Atlético de Madrid: whether or not to make a pasillo to the La Liga champions.

The majority of the players have refused to make the pasillo and the club has come to their rescue by informing them of their refusal to do so.

What is clear is that the image of the team that makes the pasillo to the winner is the one that is enhanced. The champion doesn't care.

And it's also true that making the pasillo to the top rival in your own stadium and against the opinion of your supporters is complicated.

That's up to the greatness of each one of us.
