Reflections on the new New Silk Road scenarios

Under the title "The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI): opportunities in the Ibero-America-Spain-China triangulation", the Spanish public affairs consultancy NI HAO CONECTA has taken another step forward in its objective of creating an exclusive hub for investment and opportunities based in Spain and has held its second informative breakfast at the Casino Gran Vía in Madrid.

In this second meeting, the breakfast featured a presentation by Carlos Santana, IE Business School professor and expert in supply chains and the Chinese market, and speeches by Guillermo Hirschfeld, Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Argentina to the Kingdom of Spain, and Ezequiel Ávila, diplomat at the Economic and Commercial Section of the Republic of Argentina to the Kingdom of Spain.

In his speech, Carlos Santana stressed "how China, with the Silk Road, has taken a path of opening up to the world, The Belt and Road Initiative is its model of relations with the outside world, it is China's invitation and the basis of its international relations".

For his part, Guillermo Hirschfeld highlighted "Argentina's great potential as one of the driving forces in today's world economy due to its progressive and continuous growth". The Argentinean diplomat Ezequiel Ávila, in his speech, addressed "The good harmony that exists between China and Argentina, which has culminated in Argentina's entry into the great project of the Belt and Road". Both speakers pointed out the possibilities that Argentina offers as an international business destination, and the need for the country to take positive advantage of the current global situation in order to position itself as a technological, energy and industrial power in Latin America and Europe.

Ezequiel Ávila stressed that "Argentina's good positioning in terms of green energy and its readiness to manufacture green hydrogen place it among the world's leading countries in this emerging energy".

Among those attending the meeting were businessmen, academics, representatives of various embassies and the media, such as Mr. Hu Jiaqi, the new director for Spain of the Chinese news agency Xinhua.

Finally, Laura González Escallada, president of NI HAO CONECTA, highlighted in her speech "the importance of the great Chinese project of the Belt and Road for the logistic and business rapprochement of China with the world" and the need for "Spain and Argentina to increase their commercial flow" and "for businessmen from Argentina, Spain and China to increase their collaboration and investments". Furthermore, González Escallada reiterated NI HAO CONECTA's commitment to Latin America, China and Spain, to its entrepreneurs, and to working on institutional relations as the basis for business and trade relations between the countries.
