A second person arrested in connection with the Nice bombing in France
A second person was arrested tonight in connection with the attack that killed three people in a church in Nice, following the arrest of a first person on the night of the attack last Thursday, judicial sources said.
The 35-year-old is believed by investigators to have been in contact the day before the attack, as was the first.
The perpetrator, a Tunisian who entered Europe illegally via the Italian island of Lampedusa, is still in hospital because of injuries sustained during his arrest.
The attack took place a few days before the Catholic feast of All Saints in the Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption in the heart of the capital of the Côte d'Azur.
The French government ordered increased security throughout the country, especially in religious temples.
The French President, Emmanuel Macron, met Pope Francis on Friday, to whom he guaranteed that he would fight "tirelessly against extremism so that all French people can live their faith in peace and without fear," said the Elysée Palace. The Pontiff showed his condolences to the French head of state, he added.
